ma-eum
24 October - 21 November 2025
Ida Nissen
Mija Maria Yoon Stahlschmidt

ma-eum is a collective installation and exploration around being in-between, belonging, and relating.

Video footage from 1986 Asian Games and 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul is the backdrop for a collage layering voice overs and transcriptions from Korean beginner language lessons, programme schedules for culture trips in Korea in flux with text clippings overlapping each other.

The video is accompanied by a folding screen, and a hanging space divider with a small brass gong (꽹과리 kkwaenggwari.) Together, pieces of black scrim fabric on the floor meet orchid flowers, Asian pears (배 bae), and a low folding table in the corner sits with Korean tableware, a kimchi container and a soju hiking cup, while lucky cats sit together nodding their heads.

ma-eum is about being together in between.
